New EAF for IDC: HashtagBadische has received the final FAC!
In 2021, Izmir Demir Celik / IDC Steel embarked together with Badische Stahl-Engineering on an expansion project aimed at setting a new benchmark for efficient and safe operations with the construction of a new 150 Tonnes HashtagAC HashtagEAF production line for large section profiles.
The furnace has been straigt-forward designed to maximize volume with an optimized and balanced electrical power input using FNM calculations. A homogeneous and powerful chemical energy input was ensured, too. Key safety features include spray-cooled roof and elbow technology in conjunction with an Smart Leakage Detection system.
The new emission control system has been designed to meet IDC's current and future production requirements while fully complying with local environmental regulations.
BSE provided comprehensive basic and detailed engineering for the 150 tonnes EAF, the 150 tonnes HashtagLF and the dust collection system and supplied all important key components such as:
- Furnace gantry,
- High current line,
- Columns and electrode arms,
- Oxygen technology,
- Elarc electrode regulation,
- Safety tools like the spray-cooled roof and Smart Leakage Detection and
- High-pressure HTQ for off-gas treatment
all with a high level of automation to meet today's requirements for a safe and near-manless operation.
The new furnace, ladle furnace and dedusting system were commissioned at the end of April 2024 and achieved highly productive operation within eight weeks, meeting the expected performance standards. The final acceptance certificate was issued in September 2024.
This innovative furnace concept will ensure that IDC is equipped for the future world of steel production, with various process tool upgrades already planned for implementation in a second phase to achieve a manless operation around the EAF.
We are more than proud of the excellent work done by all the engineers and technicians of IDC and BSE, as well as our suppliers.
All the best for a successful and productive future!
